New water treatment plants for Central Darling Shire

The NSW Government is delivering more than $11 million in new infrastructure to improve water quality and reliability for communities in the Central Darling Shire.

Wilcannia, Ivanhoe and White Cliffs will soon have access to modern, high-tech water treatment plants thanks to funding from the NSW Water Security for the Regions and Safe and Secure Water Programs.

Everyone deserves access top quality drinking water no matter where they live, which is why the NSW Government is investing in new treatment plants to support the 1200 residents who live and work in these rural communities.

Access to clean drinking water in these remote towns has been an ongoing challenge in recent years because the current infrastructure is outdated and requires constant maintenance.

Bringing the technology into the 21st century will transform water quality and reliability and ensure the plants are operating continuously without constant breakdowns.

The new plants are also expected to help eradicate the need for boil water alerts.

Construction is already underway at White Cliffs, where the existing water treatment plant has been maintained by the local operator using true ingenuity to hold it together with a patchwork of equipment.

Work on Wilcannia is expected to kick off before the end of November with Ivanhoe on track to be shovel ready by December, which is great news for the community.

Construction of all three water treatment plants will be completed by late 2023.

This project is part of the $1.1 billion Safe and Secure Water Program, which has delivered 34 completed projects across regional NSW with funding for more than 200 other projects currently in various stages of delivery.
