Nelligen residents are one step closer to having access to reticulated drinking water and sewerage services for the first time, with construction about to commence on new pumping stations and transfer pipelines.

Walgett water quality has improved significantly since the town switched to river water permanently last week – with sodium levels now under 80 milligrams per litre.

Following the Federal Government’s decision last night to withdraw funding the NSW Government will not proceed with the Dungowan Dam project.

For the first time since 2020, Walgett will no longer solely rely on salty bore water as its main water source with the town taking the first steps towards switching to river water.

Minister for Water Rose Jackson will visit Walgett today to meet with the local community to get a better understanding of the water challenges facing their town.

The NSW Government is taking proactive and precautionary action to help protect the Darling-Barka River as we move into cooler weather conditions.
