EOI open for regional water project funding

The NSW Government is calling for expressions of interest to participate in the next round of funding applications for the Australian Government's National Water Grid Fund to help drought proof water supplies and improve water security for country NSW.

We are inviting regional councils, local water utilities, irrigation organisations, Aboriginal organisations and science and research agencies to apply for funding for priority water infrastructure and research projects across the state.

Projects can include new infrastructure such as town water treatment plants, recycling plants, groundwater storages, dams, weirs, pipelines, desalination plants, irrigation modernisation or expansion works and other critical water projects.

We will work closely with the shortlisted applicants to develop funding proposals for priority projects for consideration by the Australian Government.

The proposals must clearly demonstrate how projects will provide long-term benefits for local communities or industry sectors by improving water security and supply resilience and helping to unlock economic development in the area.

Applicants can either apply for funding for individual projects or a package of programs, and proposals must outline the full scope of work and costings. For any new construction works, a Final Business Case must support the application.

Expressions of interest for the June 2024 funding round must be submitted no later than 11:00 pm (AEST) on 13 May. The selection process is open and competitive.

We encourage applicants to check and adhere to the criteria, requirements and dates specified in the National Water Grid Fund - NSW Guideline for Applications.

NSW DCCEEW Executive Director of Development, Lisa Hingerty said:

"Some of our state's most significant water infrastructure and scientific research projects are being delivered through the National Water Grid Fund, and we want to see what's coming up next.

"This includes $10.6 million in funding towards the NSW Connections Pathway Package to build new pipelines, a pump station and reservoir for West Wyalong, a 300 ML off-stream storage dam and pump station at Walcha and a sludge lagoon for Urbenville-Woodenbong.

"There is also $8.5 million in National Water Grid funding for the development of Final Business Cases for the Macquarie-Wambuul Water Security Scheme and the Belubula Water Security Scheme to build drought resilience for residents, businesses, agriculture and the environment across the Central West.

"These are just some of the projects that are being rolled out thanks to the National Water Grid Fund that are crucial for the future growth and prosperity of these towns and regions and will boost water reliability and security for many generations.

"Now we're looking for the next water projects to support our remote and rural communities, improve water quality and security and drive thriving economies, healthy environments and growing communities, which is why we encourage parties to submit their Expression of Interest by 13 May."
