Improving Warrumbungle water and sewerage operations

Water and sewerage operations across the Warrumbungle Shire have been streamlined thanks to a million-dollar upgrade of the telemetry network.

The upgraded system will allow staff to remotely monitor council’s water and sewerage assets via one operating system.

The Warrumbungle Shire Council’s network consists of 45 sites including water treatment plants, pump stations, reservoirs, sewerage treatment plants across the region.

Each of these assets provides vital services to the region’s more than 9200 residents, but with a footprint of 12,380 square kilometres they need to rely on technology to maintain and operate the infrastructure effectively.

The upgraded system will improve operations by giving staff a real time snapshot of the water and sewerage facilities so they can identify issues as they happen.

The new telemetry will also give the Council the ability to control vital equipment remotely, so they can manage everything at the touch of a button from one place.

This upgrade will ensure Warrumbungle Shire Council has greater oversight of its assets enabling them to maintain the delivery of safe and secure water to Baradine, Binnaway, Coolah, Coonabarabran, Dunedoo, Mendooran and surrounds for years to come.

The new technology includes an alert system, which will ensure staff can respond immediately when water quality and supply problems occur.

This project was funded thanks to $750,000 from the NSW Government’s Safe and Secure Water Program and $250,000 from the Warrumbungle Shire Council.

The $1 billion Safe and Secure Water Program has delivered 36 completed projects across regional NSW with funding for more than 200 other projects currently in various stages of delivery.
