Water Management (General) Regulation 2018

The Department of Industry-Water is notifying water users that the new Water Management (General) Regulation 2018 is now in effect, replacing the 2011 regulation.

Executive Director Water, Department of Industry, Rachel Connell said the new Regulation supports the operation of the Water Management Act 2000 and offers clearer instruction around water access.

“The 2011 Regulation was reviewed with common sense amendments made to reduce duplication and cut red tape.

“The 2018 Regulation specifies procedural, technical and licence requirements under the Water Management Act 2000, as well as the functions and powers of water supply authorities.

“The new Regulation was finalised after careful consideration of nine submissions received during the public consultation of the draft late last year,” she said.

To help users understand the changes, new resources are available on the Department’s website.

These resources include comprehensive fact sheets on water licence and approval exemptions and a web mapping portal to identify the Strahler stream order of a stream for the purpose of determining if an exemption applies.

The 2018 Regulation can be found in full on the NSW Legislation website.
