Work begins on new water pipeline for Armidale

Construction has started on the new $11.5 million Puddledock Dam pipeline to provide greater water security for Armidale by providing an alternative water supply for the community to lean on, particularly during dry times.

The new 13 kilometre pipeline will connect the 730 megalitre water reservoir at Puddledock - Armidale’s former primary potable water storage - with the city’s existing water treatment plant and will be used in emergencies.

The project will provide greater water security for Armidale by delivering the equivalent of an extra three month’s supply of water.

The infrastructure will provide a critical lifeline for the community during droughts and will ensure the town has another secure option when there are interruptions to supply from Malpas Dam.

It is another example of the NSW Government building a safer and more secure water future for regional NSW that will help drive the growth and prosperity of Armidale.

Construction is expected to be finished by early 2023.

The project is jointly funded by the NSW Government’s Safe and Secure Water Program ($5.77 million) and Armidale Regional Council ($5.73 million).

The $1.1 billion Safe and Secure Water Program, has delivered 34 completed projects across regional NSW with funding for more than 200 other projects currently in various stages of delivery.
